How to apply for University of California

Any of UC's nine undergraduate campuses can provide you with wide-ranging educational opportunities. To make it easy for you to apply to more than one campus, we have a single application.
Keep in mind that not every student can be admitted to his or her first-choice campus. Applying to more than one campus can significantly increase your chances of being admitted to a campus that, while not your first choice, will enable you to fulfill your educational goals.
Apply Once
Submit only one application per term and indicate all campus choices on it. Submitting multiple applications will result in a serious processing delay.

Application Filing Periods
All campuses except Berkeley and Merced Winter Quarter 2010 July 1-31, 2009
Spring Quarter 2010 (except UCLA and UC San Diego) October 1–31, 2009
Fall Quarter 2010 November 1–30, 2009
Berkeley Fall Semester 2010 November 1–30, 2009
Merced Spring Semester 2010 July 1–31, 2009
Fall Semester 2010 November 1–30, 2009

Please note: Not all campuses or programs are open for winter and/or spring terms. Please check open/closed majors before applying.
Applications must be submitted online or postmarked by the last day of the appropriate filing period. Most campuses do not accept applications after the filing period. If you plan to apply after the filing period, check with the campus to see if there are openings before submitting your application.
If you apply after the filing period to a campus that is no longer accepting applications, the UC Undergraduate Application Processing Service will notify you by mail that your application will not be forwarded to the campus. You may receive a full or partial refund of the application fee.
Report Test Scores
If you apply as a freshman for the fall 2010 term, you must take two SAT Subject Tests and the ACT Assessment plus Writing or SAT Reasoning Test no later than December 2009. Direct the testing agencies to report your scores to each UC campus to which you plan to apply. They must be received by the campuses by the time December tests scores are normally reported. If you apply as a freshman for the winter or spring term, check with the campus admissions office about relevant testing deadlines.

Open/Closed Majors
Fall Quarter/ Semester 2010
The priority filing period for the application for fall 2010 has ended. However, UCLA is still accepting applications from junior and senior transfer and second baccalaureate applicants in Nursing-Postlicensure, B.S. The campus will close to all new applicants on January 31, 2010.

How to Apply
To help you keep track of everything you need to do through the application process, follow this checklist:

Report your test results.
You may self-report your SAT and/or ACT results in the application, and you also are required to submit official test scores. Please order score reports from the testing agency no later than December 2009 for fall 2010 admission. If you have an official score report sent to one campus, it will be shared with all campuses to which you apply.
Provide your e-mail address.
Most campuses communicate with applicants by e-mail. Provide a reliable e-mail account that you will check regularly and keep until you enroll. E-mail addresses must be no more than 50 characters.
Consider your personal statement.
The personal statement is an important part of your application for admission. The University uses it to learn more about you as an individual. Early on in the admissions process, review the questions that you will respond to in writing your statement, and give yourself time to write, revise, and thoroughly proofread your statement before adding it to your application.
Apply for scholarships.
Use the application for admission to apply for all scholarships administered by the University, including Regents scholarships. Many scholarship programs, including those administered by University alumni associations, require applicants to submit additional materials.
Pay fees.
Pay application fees with a credit card when you submit your application. If you want to pay later, ask the Application Processing Service to bill you.
Print a copy.
Keep a copy of your application receipt and personal statement for your files.
Letters of recommendation.
UC does not require or solicit letters of recommendation for undergraduate admission.
